Burney Riggs, Jr.
Major Burney Riggs served with the USAF nearly 23 years before his retirement in 1988. During the Vietnam era, Burney was a senior navigator on the C97 Stratofreighter, the C124 Globemaster, and later, the C130 Hercules. He finished his career as a Ground Safety Officer. Burney’s home base was Travis Field in Savannah, Georgia with the Georgia Air National Guard’s 158th Military Airlift Squadron attached to the 165th Military Airlift Group. This group became the 165th Tactical Airlift Wing of the USAF.
When Burney moved to North Georgia from Savannah nearly 28 years ago, he was blessed with a successful remodeling and repair business before retiring again. He and his wife Julie, dogs Buddy, Bella, and cat Callie live amongst the foothills north of Clarkesville in Habersham County. They enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, kayaking and leading a small group at The Torch Worship Center in Demorest. They also enjoy spending time with their five children and three grandchildren.
