Bartley Jackson Cash

May 29, 1824 - May 4, 1907 (Age 82)

Bartley Jackson Cash and his brothers served in the Confederate army, although some, like Bartley were outside the age of conscription and chose to enlist. The Cash brothers served in different units, whether by coincidence, or perhaps design so that if one regiment or unit sustained heavy loses, some of the brothers would return home.

Bartley enlisted in the 12th Cavalry, also known as Wright’s Calvary. The 12th Calvary was part of the Georgia State Guards. He appeared in September 19, 1863 on a muster of Company H 16th Battalion Georgia Calvary, led by Captain Ray. As soldiers were lost due to illness, injury or death, units were often combined or reformed to continue the fight. Ultimately as the 16th Battalion grew through the addition of companies, its designation changed to the 13 Regiment Georgia Calvary, effective May 2nd 1864. Bartley Jackson Cash and his brothers survived the war. He died at age 82 from burns received in a tragic fire.
