Robert Frank Moffett, Jr.
The 3rd infantry, The Old Guard, is the oldest active-duty infantry regiment in the US Army. It was organized in 1784 as the First American Regiment. It is the official ceremonial unit of the US Army since 1948. They are stationed at Fort Myers, Va., The site Arlington National Cemetery.
The perform many duties around the Capital, throughout the country, and at Arlington National Cemetery.
I was honored to serve in the Old Guard. I served from 1972 to 1974.
I come from a family of service members. MY great grandfather served as a Lieutenant in the Va. 7th Infantry during the Civil War. My great uncle was killed in World War 1. My dad was a Sgt. In the 42nd Armor Division in the Philippines in World War 2. My Uncle served in Alaska during World War 2.
My wife's grandfather served with Gen. Patton during World War 2 and her father served during the Korean War.
I am very proud to have served and to be considered a veteran.
