Thomas 'Tommie' B. Irvin, Sr.
August 2, 1926 - December 5, 2010 (Age 84)
THOMAS "TOMMIE" B. IRVIN, SR., was born in Habersham County, on August 2, 1926, to the Lee V. and Stella Thomason Irvin. He married Alice Andrews Irvin and had 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great
He was joined the army in 1943 at the age of 18, and would serve as a sergeant in Company K 254th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Division. He was awarded several medals, including a bronze star, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was the 16th member of NASCAR and was inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of fame in 2009. In 1955 he opened Banks County Speedway. It operated till 1970. He worked for the Department of Ag for 34 years. He was the owner of Irvin's Carhartt Store.
He passed away December 5th 2010.
